![]() ![]() I also got a piece of sheer white fabric from my sister. This really thick glue I borrowed from my sister called Fabri-tac.Monster High purple wigs (2) from amazon.I bought foam for the body (measured to daughter’s height), purple satin fabric, black felt fabric, spray adhesive glue, two Styrofoam rings and one Styrofoam dome. Go to Joanne’s. Seriously most of everything I used was there. Needless to say she has been tickled pink! (or purple, he he). She let my son wear it for a few minutes when she got hot (the costume actually works for many ages) and then got jealous over all the attention he was getting and had to have it back. People yell “minion!” and come running over. My daughter is ecstatic and everywhere we go everyone wants to take pics with her. I stay away from Pinterest because I find it too intimidating so I had no tutorial and no directions, I just put together what came into my head – and it ACTUALLY WORKED!! When all was said and done, I think it turned out terrific for a non-crafty type. I used a TON of glue, learned how NOT to glue, learned how to lengthen arms when my daughter didn’t think they dragged enough, and even figured out how to make a stencil on my third try! (why are those so confusing!). I took a chance and went to Joanne’s and kind of pretended I knew what I was doing (fake it till you make it, right?) I didn’t even know you have to draw a number – like at a deli! I bought fabric, foam, spray glue, and some Styrofoam thingy that I thought might work for the head – oh, and I scared a little girl about my daughter’s size when I asked her mom if I could wrap some foam around her. I could write poetry, or a song, but the tole painting was my sister Helen, and the theme party gig was all my sister Pam.īut when my 4 year old daughter wanted to be a purple Minion, I felt even I could do better than the foam shirt option I found online. I am one of three sisters and my mom even once said “The Lord has blessed me with two creative daughters”. My sisters have always been the “crafty ones”. This is my first year making a costume for one of my children. Never in a million years did I think I would be entering one of my own costumes here. Cut out a letter M in the white foam, glue onto overalls.First let me say that I have spent years looking at this site just because it is so FUN! When I was pregnant I remember looking for just the right costume. Cut 2 strips to make the overall shoulder straps, glue into place. Wrap black fleece around the bottom of the costume. Once I found what I liked, I glued all the teeth to the inside of the mouth. ![]() I don’t have specific instructions on this I cut out each tooth and held it up to the mouth, deciding how I wanted it to look. You’re in the home stretch! At this point, the only things left to do are cut out and glue the teeth, using the white foam, make the “overalls” and attach a white M. Hot glue into place to achieve the look you like. Now, cut apart the purple wigs so they will lay flat on top of the costume. ![]() Hot glue the bowl into the eye piece, ensuring the fit is tight and the glue is holding the bowl properly.Īt this point, have your child try on the costume to make sure the arm and eye pieces are still in the same spot. (I don’t have a picture of this, sadly)Ĭut a wide strip of the black fleece and place it over the eye, wrapping completely around the costume. Spray paint the bowl silver, this is your eye piece. Next, cut out the hole in the bottom of your plastic bowl, filing off any sharp plastic so you don’t cut your child’s face. If you leave it on too long, it will create a hole. The best way to avoid this is to quickly place on the hot glue without touching the metal part of the gun to the mat. ** It should be noted…you are hot gluing a foam mat. It should look something like this:Ĭut out the mouth and eye, and fold the fabric into the costume, hot gluing it into place. Next, roll the costume in the purple fleece, adding hot glue every few inches. You can eye ball this, I had my child try on the costume and place the eye where he could see out of it, and the mouth where it looked appropriate. After the glue dried and the foam mat is sticking together, move onto cutting out the mouth and eye using the razor blade. I had to make my tube longer for my tall child, so I had to add a bottom part that I reinforced with a piece of laundry basket, as well as a circular top to rest on my child’s head. I had trouble with this, so I used pieces from an old laundry basket to reinforce the back. Glue the camping foam mat together in the back, ensuring the seal is tight. Cut out holes for the arms and try on your child to ensure it will fit. To start, unroll your camping foam mat and measure out the size you will need to fit your child. Purple wigs (I ended up needing 4, depends on what look you want) Purple fleece (3-4 yards depending on size) ![]()
